Why the Honda CG125 Platform Still Matters

First introduced by Honda in 1976, the CG125 was engineered specifically for developing markets where preventative maintenance is rare and reliability is non-negotiable. Honda chose the OHV (Overhead Valve) pushrod design over OHC because it tolerated missed oil changes, dusty conditions, and prolonged abuse — a deliberate engineering trade-off that created one of the most durable small-displacement engines ever built. Half a century later, the CG125 remains in active production. Atlas Honda in Pakistan, Wuyang Honda and Sundiro Honda in China, and licensed assemblers across Brazil, Argentina, Nigeria, and the Philippines continue to manufacture CG125 and CG150 variants. The installed base across Latin America, South Asia, and Africa runs into tens of millions of units, with many engines exceeding 100,000 km in service. This durability has created one of the largest aftermarket cylinder head replacement markets in the global motorcycle industry. At Feiya Machinery, we have been mass-producing CG125 cylinder heads since 2009. Our tooling, casting cores, and CNC programs are calibrated specifically for the OHV pushrod geometry — including the original 56.5mm × 49.5mm bore and stroke, the OHV-specific rocker arm geometry, and the integrated pushrod tunnel design that distinguishes a true CG125 head from later OHC-converted variants.

OHV vs OHC: Identifying the Correct CG125 Cylinder Head

One of the most common procurement errors we see is sourcing the wrong variant of the CG125 cylinder head. Although both share the same model name, they are not interchangeable. Buyers must specify which variant they need:

VARIANT 1
Original CG125 OHV (Pushrod) — Our Primary Production
Markets:Pakistan (Atlas Honda), China (Wuyang Honda WY125), Argentina, Nigeria, Kenya, Philippines, classic CG125 variants in Brazil pre-2009
Identifying Features:Pushrod tunnel cast into the cylinder head; rocker cover bolts on top with 4 bolts; no overhead camshaft seat; smaller overall head profile
Use Cases:Replacement for engines manufactured under license outside Brazil; classic CG125 restoration; markets that retained the original OHV platform
VARIANT 2
Brazilian CG125/150 OHC (Overhead Camshaft) — Available on Request
Markets:Brazil post-2009 (after Euro 3 emission compliance), some Sundiro Honda SDH125-7E units in China
Identifying Features:Camshaft seat machined into the head; timing chain tensioner mounting points; revised bore/stroke (57.3mm × 57.8mm)
Note:We can manufacture this variant with separate tooling — please specify in your RFQ to avoid mismatch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Honda CG125 OHV and OHC cylinder heads?

The OHV variant uses pushrods to actuate valves and has a pushrod tunnel cast into the head — this is the original 1976 design still used in Pakistan, China (WY125), and most legacy markets. The OHC variant, introduced in Brazil in 2009 to meet Euro 3 emissions, uses an overhead camshaft and has different bore/stroke (57.3mm × 57.8mm). The two heads are not interchangeable. Always confirm which engine variant you are replacing before ordering.

What is your minimum order quantity for CG125 cylinder heads?

Standard MOQ is 500 pieces per SKU. We accept smaller sample orders (50-100 pieces) for new client qualification. For long-term contracts and OEM clients, we offer flexible MOQ structures based on rolling forecast commitments.

Do you supply bare castings or assembled cylinder heads?

Both. We offer (1) bare castings — fully heat-treated, ready for your CNC machining; (2) CNC-machined raw heads — ready for your valvetrain assembly; and (3) fully assembled heads — pre-installed with valves, springs, retainers, and high-temperature seals, ready for direct installation.

Can you manufacture cylinder heads for discontinued CG125 variants from the 1980s and 1990s?

Yes. We retain tooling for several legacy CG125 specifications, including older Pakistani and Brazilian variants. If you need a discontinued specification, please send us OEM samples or technical drawings — our engineering team can typically reverse-engineer and produce qualifying samples within 60-75 days.

What quality certifications do you provide with each shipment?

Every batch ships with: (1) material composition certificate (spectrometer report), (2) CMM dimensional inspection report on critical features, (3) high-pressure leak test pass record, (4) batch traceability documentation. ISO 9001 certified facility.

Do you ship to Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria, and other key CG125 markets?

Yes. We have established export experience to all major CG125 markets including Pakistan (Karachi, Lahore), Brazil (Santos, Manaus), Nigeria (Lagos), Kenya (Mombasa), Argentina (Buenos Aires), and the Philippines (Manila). We support FOB, CIF, and DDP terms.
