Casting Porosity Control in Motorcycle Cylinder Head

Model ID: DY315

For the DY315, Feiya implements a zero-tolerance approach to casting porosity, recognizing that internal defects are the primary cause of leakage and structural failure in high-performance engines. Our control protocol begins at the melting stage with Rotary Impeller Degassing. By injecting inert nitrogen or argon gas into the molten aluminum through a spinning rotor, we actively purge dissolved hydrogen gas—the main culprit behind pinhole porosity. We verify the melt quality using the Density Index (DI) test before every pour, ensuring the liquid metal is chemically pure and gas-free.

During the casting phase, we employ Vacuum-Assisted technology. As the molten aluminum fills the mold, a vacuum system simultaneously evacuates air from the die cavity. This creates a negative pressure environment that prevents air entrapment and ensures the metal flows smoothly into complex thick-and-thin transitions without turbulence. To address shrinkage porosity, we utilize strategically placed risers and optimized cooling channels that promote directional solidification, ensuring the casting feeds itself as it cools. Finally, 100% of our cylinder heads undergo X-ray inspection to validate that the internal structure is solid, dense, and ready for precision machining.
