Model ID: DY67
The DY67 features a specialized abrasive sandblasted finish, a process essential for components requiring surface preparation or a rugged, industrial aesthetic. Unlike the gentle cleaning of vapor blasting, our dry blasting process utilizes angular media—typically Aluminum Oxide or aggressive grit—driven by high-pressure compressed air. This method effectively removes tenacious casting scales, flash, and surface impurities from the raw aluminum, leaving behind a chemically clean, uniform, and non-reflective matte gray texture. This process is particularly effective at deburring sharp edges on cooling fins and machining marks, ensuring safe handling and assembly.
The primary functional advantage of the DY67’s finish is surface profiling for coating adhesion. If a cylinder head is destined to be painted, powder-coated, or treated with specialized thermal dispersants (like Cerakote), a smooth surface is detrimental. Our sandblasting process creates a microscopic "anchor pattern" or tooth on the aluminum surface. This increased surface area allows coatings to mechanically interlock with the base metal, preventing peeling or flaking under high thermal stress. Additionally, for air-cooled engines, this roughened matte surface can marginally improve radiant heat dissipation compared to a polished finish, aiding in overall thermal management.
