Tapping Threads Motorcycle Cylinder Head

Model ID: DY300-2

The DY300-2 highlights Feiya’s commitment to detail in the often-overlooked but critical process of thread tapping. A cylinder head is filled with threaded connection points—from spark plugs and exhaust studs to intake manifold bolts—that must withstand frequent disassembly and extreme torque loads. To prevent the common issue of stripped threads in soft aluminum, we utilize Synchronous (Rigid) Tapping on our CNC centers. This technology synchronizes the rotation of the spindle perfectly with the feed rate, ensuring the tap enters the hole at the exact pitch angle. This eliminates axial force on the thread flanks during cutting, preventing the "bell-mouthing" or cross-threading that often occurs with manual or floating tap holders.

For high-stress areas like the spark plug bore, we employ Thread Forming (Roll Tapping) technology. Unlike traditional cutting taps that remove material and sever the metal's grain structure, forming taps displace the material to create the thread. This "cold working" process compresses the aluminum, resulting in a thread profile that is significantly harder and stronger than the surrounding cast material. This increased shear strength is vital for holding torque specs under thermal expansion. Every threaded hole is verified with automated Go/No-Go gauges to ensure perfect fastener fitment, guaranteeing that mechanics can service the engine repeatedly without fear of thread failure.
