The YZ125 head works differently from a four-stroke head. There are no valves, seats, or guides — on a two-stroke the head is a combustion-chamber cap sealing the top of the cylinder, with a squish band, a coolant jacket, and a central spark-plug bore. That makes one dimension decisive: squish clearance. The stock YZ125 squish runs wide for a 125, around 0.050 inch, which leaves power on the table and raises detonation risk. A correctly machined head tightens that toward roughly 0.035 inch, shields the end gas, adds turbulence, and burns the charge more completely. The other catch is the flat-top piston with a large side bevel, which a generic head geometry does not match well — the squish band has to be cut to suit that piston profile. Our motorcycle cylinder head program covers the YZ125 across all three engine families, with squish set to the buyer's compression and fuel target.
| Specification | Standard Value |
| Engine Platform | Yamaha YZ125 motocross two-stroke. YZ125X off-road variant (2020+) supported — specify model and year in RFQ. |
| Engine Type | 2-stroke, single cylinder, reed-valve induction, liquid-cooled, YPVS power valve |
| Displacement | 124.9cc (nominal 125cc) |
| Head Type | Two-stroke combustion-chamber head — no valvetrain. Single central spark-plug bore, integrated squish band and coolant jacket. |
| Construction Options | One-piece billet head, or two-piece head with interchangeable dome/insert for compression tuning. Cast option available for economy tiers. |
| Material | 6061-T6 billet aluminum (preferred for thermal conductivity and heat removal). A356-T6 cast available. 7075 on request, though 6061 sheds heat better. |
| Squish Clearance | Machined to target, typically around 0.035 in (0.9mm) for performance builds vs. the wider ~0.050 in stock figure. Set to your piston and base-gasket stack. |
| Compression Options | Combustion-chamber volume cut to a chosen ratio. Pump-fuel (91/98 RON) and race-fuel chamber profiles. High-altitude variants on request. |
| Piston Match | Squish band profiled to the OEM flat-top-with-bevel piston shape, so end gas is dealt with correctly at the cylinder wall. |
| Cooling | High-volume coolant jacket. Two-piece designs allow greater coolant flow around the chamber. |
| Generation Compatibility | 2001-2004, 2005-2021, and all-new 2022+ engine (new head, cylinder, and piston). YZ125X 2020+ supported. Confirm year — chamber and bolt detail differ between families. |
| Sealing | O-ring sealed (billet) or head-gasket sealed depending on design. O-rings and copper washers included on billet units. |
| Deck/Sealing Flatness | ≤ 0.02mm (CMM verified on every unit) |
| Supply Options | Finished billet head / cast blank / two-piece head with selectable dome. Private-label engraving available. |
| Surface Finish | As-machined, bead-blasted, or anodized (black/blue/custom) on request |
